All Office apps had been running with no problems since July, I mention the Windows updates as a time reference and not necessarily the cause of the problem.

I think there may have been a conflict between Malwarebytes and Office. I then r an a System Restore to a version earlier than a Microsoft 10 Update.

Unfortunately, this isn't working. I completed "rebuilding" the index less that a week ago. When I select "rebuild" -- called for in step four -- the screen shows , files indexed and the message "indexing complete". I've not been able to get around this and perform a new rebuild of the existing index.
